Baking/cooking: Recipe Suggestion: Round Moon Cheese Cookies with Jam Craters!

Watering Whole @Home Curriculum Week 3

These cookies are sugar-free, so delicious and very easy to make.

Learning points: Cooking and baking is wonderful fine-motor work, building up all those hand and finger muscles through pouring, squigging, moulding and poking etc. It’s also develops math skills through measuring and counting and helps children learn to follow directions too. Here we are also consolidating our learning of circles, moons and craters.

Ingredients:
150g flour
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
130g finely grated cheddar cheese
130g grated chilled butter
3 TBS jam (strawberry or apricot)

Directions:

Heat the oven to 180 degrees.

Sift the flour, baking powder and salt

Add grated cheese and mix
Add grated chilled butter
Rub ingredients together and slowly form a dough. Add a couple of TBS of cold water if it feels too dry.

Make round moon balls and poke craters in the centre of each.

Fill the centre with jam.

Bake for 10min then reduce the temp to 160 degrees and bake for 5 more min.

Bunny Crumpets

Baking/cooking: Recipe Suggestion:

For some reason making faces on food seems to make it extra tasty! …and full tummies definitely make for happy children!

We make these super simple “mug” crumpets nearly every weekend!

What I love about them?…they are so simple I can make them on a Sunday morning even when I am half-asleep, they are filled with protein from all the eggs and they are sugar free!

Zakai will often make versions of these on his own and really loves cracking the eggs!

Directions:

Crack about 4 to 6 eggs in a bowl and whisk.

Add and mix:

a large mug full of flour (we use gluten free)

about a mug full of milk (we use rice milk)

a teaspoon of cinnamon

Fry in a little butter and…voila!

Decorate with Bananas for ears, Berries for eyes and nose and mouth. You can also use cut up apple for whiskers.
