Healthy Daily Snack

Watering Whole Holistic Preschool provides a healthy snack for each child daily.

 

We try to source organic ingredients wherever possible. The snacks are made fresh here on our premises daily and are free of harmful preservatives and additives.

 

Once a week, during cooking/baking lessons, the children take part in preparing their snack (i.e. picking vegetables from the garden, applying toppings to their pizzas, mixing the batter for the muffins). We believe that this is an important learning experience for the children, providing them with knowledge on healthy food and giving them a sense of responsibility over their eating. 

 

Below are some examples of the type of snacks that are offered: 

  • Oats porridge cooked with organic milk, seeds, raisins etc
  • Preservative free yoghurt with fruit salad/honey/berries/low GI muesli
  • Our delicious homemade banana and berry smoothies or mixed fruit smoothies
  • Green salads/pasta salads/vege sticks with various dips
  • Mini pita breads/low GI sandwiches/whole wheat rolls/corn thins or rice cakes with various fillings such as: avo, tuna, cheese, snoek pate, hummus etc
  • Mealie meal pap/samp served with cabbage/spinach and beans
  • Variety of soups – butternut, mixed vegetable, lentil, etc
  • Pasta and vege bakes
  • Home baked banana or berry muffins/banana bread
  • Homemade creamed spinach and cheese puff pastry rolls
  • Mini croissants/hot cross buns with cheese
  • Scones with jam and cheese
  • Home made mini pizzas with various toppings
  • Mini chicken sausages with cucumber sticks/carrot fingers/corn on the cob

 

Every snack time includes a portion of fresh fruit (e.g. apples, bananas, berries, pears, clemengolds/naartjies, goji berries, dried fruit, mangoes, etc). Filtered water is also always available. In addition, please provide your child with one filled and labelled pop top water bottle or sippi cup daily.

 

If a child has any special dietary requirements or restrictions, an arrangement can usually be made with us and suitable alternative ingredients must be provided by you, the parent/guardian. We do offer vegetarian/non-meat options, but any other intolerances/restrictions must be provided for by you the parent/guardian. (Please note that we do use egg in some of our baking and food however).
